MinZu DaTuanJie Fu Brick (2kg) / 民族大團結茯磚

"MinZu DaTuanJie" — meaning "Unity of All Ethnic Groups"

Between different regions producing HeiCha (Hunan, Guangxi, and Sichuan) BeiChuan Tea Factory in Sichuan was responsible for supplying tea to communities in the southwestern frontier regions. The "National Unity" label was a symbol of the government's commitment to the wellbeing of all peoples within China's borders. But could be also described as simply propaganda.

Today, surviving bricks from this era have become historic artifacts of that period. Valued not only as a precious collecting item but also as a celebrated drink with unique health benefits.

Jin Hua (Golden Flowers) are golden-yellow spores visible inside a Fu brick — scientifically known as Eurotium Cristatum. This is a beneficial probiotic mold that grows naturally inside the compressed tea under the right temperature and humidity conditions. It cannot be artificially introduced. The density and evenness of Jin Hua is the primary benchmark for evaluating a Fu brick's quality and age. In this brick, the golden flowers are well-developed and evenly distributed throughout — a clear sign of proper fermentation and genuine age.

Most Fu bricks on the market are pressed at 500g or 1400g. This brick comes in at approximately 2 kilograms — a significantly larger format. The greater mass creates a slower, more complex aging gradient: the outer layers transform at a different rate than the interior, producing a wider range of flavors and textures within a single brick.

This brick has spent its life in Hong Kong traditional storage — a warm, naturally humid environment that accelerates the post-fermentation process in a way that dry storage cannot replicate. After more than three decades, the tea has arrived at full maturity: the storage notes have faded, the liquor is smooth and rich, and the aging has settled into a clean, deep, rounded character. It is ready to drink now, and will continue to develop into more refied and delicious tea.

When opening the brick, a characteristic sweet fungal aroma appears.

Brew is deep red, rich, and clear. The color has the depth of an aged red wine — dark and lustrous, with no cloudiness.

Jin Hua aroma fungal note is distinctive, earthy, and clean with the layers of aged wood, dried herbs, and a hint of dried flowers. The aroma fills the room when the tea is brewed and lingers well after the cup is empty.

Taste is full-bodied and smooth from the first sip. The liquor is thick with a natural sweetness that builds through the cup. No bitterness, no astringency. The aftertaste is long and sweet, with a warmth that settles in the throat. A reliable sign of good original material and proper aging.
