In the past as there was embargo on tea from China it was a big problem for PuErh lovers who were not satisfied with Taiwanese tea. As demand started to grow, underground market for Pu-Erh also started to flourish. Tea was often smuggled in small boats inside old furniture and in fear of being discovered by Taiwanese customs, smugglers often removed the original tea packaging including the inner ticket (neifei). Today these teas are referred to as ‘naked’.
 
Today wrapping paper and NeiFei are important elements in verifying the origin and age of tea cakes and because ‘naked’ cakes don’t have them they are considerable cheaper than teas with original packaging. Even it might be the exact same tea, market price might differ by thousands of dollars.
This makes it great opportunity for PuErh lovers who want to experience drinking these precious old teas but don’t care that much about vintage and market values.
